Three fish documented for the October 2026 demo by Whisper of the House (October 13), cross-checked against the crafting and fishing-spot screens shown in that guide. This is not a full species list, and Early Access (November 9) may change it.
Pre-release page. Steam Early Access begins November 9, 2026. Data here comes from the Steam page, the demo, official developer posts or dated, credited demo guides, and each page says which version it reflects. We'll update it for the full release.
Fish, bait and processing chart
Search any fish, bait or material, or filter by how the bait is fished.
| Fish | Bait | Where (demo) | How it bites | After landing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Snapper | EarthwormNo crafting needed | Trading Post pier | Stationary bait | Keep the opening contract catch; other catch can supply Fish Meat. |
| Softgrazer | Wind-Up Tin1 Metal Plate + 1 Fish Meat | Peaceful-fish objective marker | Stationary bait | Thresher → Chromatic Scales. |
| Harpooner | Rainbow Fin1 Fish Meat + 1 Metal Plate + 1 Chromatic Scales | Predatory-fish objective marker | Retrieve the lure slowly through the splash zone | Keep the quest catch; exact processing yield unconfirmed. |
Catch notes
Snapper Earthworm
The first fish, found under the Trading Post pier. Ordinary Earthworm and the Simple Rod are enough, so no blueprint or new rod is needed. The traders’ opening assignment asks for five Snappers; keep those whole for delivery. Extra catches are your first source of Fish Meat.
Softgrazer Wind-Up Tin
Found at the peaceful-fish spot marked by the Catch Peaceful Fish objective; the selection screen lists the population as Peaceful. Equip Wind-Up Tin instead of Earthworm. The source guide says the contract wants three. Don’t sell them: the Thresher turns them into Chromatic Scales, which you need for the hull objective and for Rainbow Fin.
Harpooner Rainbow Fin
Found at the predatory-fish spot marked by the next objective. Cast Rainbow Fin inside the splash zone and keep it moving at a pace the fish can follow. It won’t bite a lure that sits still. How to work a predator lure. The guide also puts this contract at three. What a Harpooner yields when processed is unconfirmed.
Lure recipes
Both lures are crafted at a Workbench. Quantities are per lure, as given in the October 13 guide; the in-game blueprint screens it shows list the same materials.
Wind-Up Tin
- 1×Metal PlateSalvage around the Trading Post and nearby waters
- 1×Fish MeatProcess a whole fish at the Grinder
Meat inside a clicking tin draws in scavenging, peaceful fish. Use it as still bait.
Catches: Softgrazer
Rainbow Fin
- 1×Fish MeatProcess a whole fish at the Grinder
- 1×Metal PlateSalvage around the Trading Post and nearby waters
- 1×Chromatic ScalesProcess a Softgrazer (or another suitable peaceful fish) at the Thresher
Feathers move as you reel, imitating prey for predators to chase. It only works while moving.
Catches: Harpooner
Earthworm, the Snapper bait, needs no crafting.
Whole fish vs. Fish Meat and Scales
A landed fish stays a whole fish in your inventory. Recipes ask for processed ingredients, and each comes from a different machine at Betsy and Sons:
- Whole fishGrinderFish Meat used in both lures
- SoftgrazerThresherChromatic Scales hull objective, Rainbow Fin
- Contract catchkeep wholeDeliver don’t process or sell
Workbench shows Fish Meat 0/1? You’re probably still carrying the whole fish. Run it through the Grinder first. Same idea for Scales: a Softgrazer in the hold is not Chromatic Scales until it has been through the Thresher.
If you’ve already spent your Scales and need another set for Rainbow Fin, the guide’s advice is to catch and thresh another suitable peaceful fish rather than search salvage for them.
What this page leaves out
- Fish sale prices, spawn coordinates, catch or drop rates and processing yields: no reliable source gives them.
- A complete fish or bait list: these are the three demo pairings that are documented, not the whole game.
- Early Access content: the store’s Early Access plans mention more fish and fishing mechanics later. We’ll update after November 9.
