Casualties: Unknown Difficulty & Run Settings

Demo 7.0 reworked the run settings menu: 6 presets and 41 individual options. Here's what each preset is for and what you can tweak.

Pre-release page. Launches on Steam November 9, 2026 at 3pm CET (14:00 UTC). Data here comes from the Steam page, the demo and official developer posts, and each page says which version it reflects. We'll update it for the full release.

Difficulty presets

PresetWhat it's for
NormalThe default. Mistakes are punishing, and time pressure is real.
RelaxedA slower, more forgiving descent with more time to explore.
ParadisePlenty of loot and friendly traders, few hazards and little time pressure.
DesolateLittle loot and lots of hazards, but the rare survivors you meet carry a lot.
UnchippedNo chip, so no artificial time limit. Your health panel is disabled, though, so diagnosing injuries is much harder.
EndlessHazards keep multiplying. The demo marks this preset as unavailable.

Summaries paraphrase the in-game preset descriptions in demo 7.0.1.

New to the game? Relaxed gives you room to learn the medical system, and Paradise is the gentlest preset in the demo. You can also start with a flashlight or a full kit using the Starting supplies option.

Before demo 7.0

The store page describes this as "adjustable loot and danger values accessible on the main menu". Demo 7.0 reworked the run settings menu, adding presets and many more options, along with a full settings menu and a proper pause menu.
